Aloha,
I just wrapped up my first ever "West Coast Swing" and I'm now at home getting some rest and enjoying a week off. I've played four of the past five weeks, and it's good to know that I made two of four cuts, missed the other two by just one shot and have two Top 25's this season.
I have a lot of memorable experiences: from the great support at the Sony, my first ever hole in one in competition at Torrey Pines, the wild and crazy fans at the FBR to all of the celebrities of the AT&T. It's been quite a journey already.
For the most part, everyone that I have either met or played a practice round with this season has been extremely welcoming onto the PGA Tour. I thought the camaraderie would be different from the Nationwide Tour, but everyone I met has been really nice. Veterans who have been on this tour for 10-15 years make me feel welcome, and they are always offering their support. Guys like Brad Faxon, Jerry Kelly, and others have all come up to me and let me know that are glad to have me out here.
I'm taking this week (The Nissan Open) off as I get ready to play the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico next week, and then I will head east to Florida to play in The Honda Classic and The P.O.D.S Championship in Tampa. The week of rest and relaxation couldn't come at a better time and I'm excited about recharging my battery for the next few events. I feel like rest and staying mentally and physically sharp are keys to success and are often overlooked. The best player in our game (Tiger Woods) often takes 3-4 weeks off because he knows he needs to be sharp both mentally and physically to reach his peak performance. Each player is different, Vijay Singh can play 35 events a year and that's what works for him, I perform at my best when I find a good balance of playing and rest.
The PGA Tour "reshuffles" players like myself who earn their PGA Tour card from either the Nationwide Tour or Qualifying School. I started the season as 37th on the reshuffle list (which means 36 of 62 players would qualify for PGA tour events before I would) but now, after the two Top 25's, I've moved up to 20th place on the list. The last tournament before the official reshuffle is Mexico, so I'm continuing to work on improving that number, hence getting into more events.
Besides that, I'm just getting my game in shape for the heart of the season, and will take full advantage of the next week or so off. Congratulations to my brother Spencer's basketball team, Punahou, which won the IOH Championships this past Thursday, beating 6-Time defending champion Iolani, advancing to the State tournament. I'm proud of you Spence.
Mahalo,
Parker
